With a background in both editing and camera assisting, Kato naturally transitioned into the role of DIT in 2020. His experience extends to large-scale multi-camera productions like Dua Lipa’s live sessions, which featured six Alexa Mini LFs. Driven by continuous improvement, Kato adjusts his support to meet the needs of both DPs and productions, creating a relaxed and cooperative set that helps ideas thrive.
While the DIT role is often seen as purely technical, Kato believes it plays a key part in protecting the visual intent of a project even on the most unpredictable sets. The role is dynamic, with each day bringing new challenges. Kato is often called upon to resolve unexpected issues on set, ensuring the production runs smoothly while preserving the integrity of the creative vision.
Kato has dual citizenship in the UK and Ireland.
